Dean's Message

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) is a world-class center of higher education with over 600 years of history. Since its founding in 1398 at the beginning of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), SKKU has demonstrated strong academic leadership. Sungkyunkwan is synonymous with both tradition and innovation in education. The literal meaning of the university’s name is 'an institution for building a harmonious society of perfected human beings'. The founding philosophy of Sungkyunkwan is needed as much as ever today in an era of technological advancement that seems devoid of humanity.

Contemporary SKKU has embraced globalization and has emerged as a leading university in Asia and the world. In fact, in all core disciplines, SKKU actively encourages global research and collaboration through the academic exchange of faculty, students, and the development of innovative educational and research programs with our global partners.

The School of Pharmacy was established in 1953 and has provided top-class pharmaceutical education in Korea ever since. Approximately six thousand of the school’s alumni are working in community pharmacies and hospitals as pharmacists, pharmaceutical and other related companies as research scientists, and in government agencies. Many pharmacists and researchers who graduated from the school are actively contributing to the nation’s health care policy and developing new pharmaceuticals for the well-being of man-kind.

Currently, 270 undergraduate students and 296 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students are enrolled in the School of Pharmacy, which receives annual extramural research funds in excess of $10.5 million from both the public and private sectors. Our faculty members and graduate students publish annually over 220 peer-reviewed research papers in SCI journals. Recently, according to the British Rating Agency QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), SKKU is one of the fastest rising universities in the world and the School of Pharmacy is ranked in the top 45.

As a part of our efforts to be a world leader in pharmacy education, the school strives to provide competitive educational programs in cutting-edge teaching and research facilities for undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Pharmacy aims to educate students who are committed to pharmaceutical care and promote scholarly activities in pharmaceutical sciences.
