Speaker: Prof. Yeonjong Shin (Brown University)

 Date:  Jan. 04, 2019 (Fri.)

 Time: 13:30 - 14:30
 Place: AORC Seminar Rooom
Title : Topics in High-Dimensional Approximation Theory
The fundamental problem in approximation theory is to approximate an unknown
function, called the target function by using its data/samples/observations. Modern
problems in approximation are driven by applications in a large number of fields, and
more importantly, those are being formulated in very high dimensions.
Depending on different scenarios on the data collection, different approximation
techniques need to be sought in order to utilize the data properly. In this talk, three
different high-dimensional approximation methods will be discussed. Each method
is designed for a specific scenario in data. One is for expensive data, another is for
corrupted data, and the third is for big data.
