본 강좌는 해방 이후 남북한의 분단 과정부터 현재까지의 남북한 관계를 다룬다. 우선 제2차 세계대전 직후 형성된 국제질서와 국내환경으로부터 왜 남북분단이 초래되었는지 검토한다. 이어서 북한정권의 태동, 북한 권력구조의 형성, 분한사회의 변화 과정을 분석함으로써 북한에 대한 이해를 심화시킨다. 강좌의 후반부에서는 남북한 관계가 어떻게 변화해 왔는지 살펴본다. 특히 역대 정권별로 남북한 관계의 주요 쟁점이 어떻게 달라져 왔는지 분석한다. 남북대화와 신뢰구축, 대남도발, 북한 핵문제, 남북 경제교류, 남북 사회문화 교류 등에 관한 실제 사례들을 생동감 있게 다룬다. 끝으로 통일 문제를 다룬다. 통일을 위한 한국 스스로의 노력과 국제사회에서의 통일외교가 어떻게 수행되어야 하는지에 대해 토의한다.

This course provide an overview of the history of Inter-Korean Relations, concentrating on the period from the division (1948) to the present. First half of the course focuses on North Korean Politics, including the birth of North Korean regime, structure of North Korean power-elite group, and the changing course of North Korean society. The other half of the course reviews how inter-Korean relations have developed so far. Case studies are made on inter-Korean dialogue, confidence-building measures, North Korean provocation, North Korean nuclear issue, inter-Korean economic cooperation, inter-Korean socio-cultural exchanges. Finally, issues concerning Korean unification will be discussed, including unification policy and unification diplomacy.
